    The Bank of Versailles started on November 21, 1882, and is one of the oldest businesses in Versailles. It was originally a private bank but chartered as a state bank on December 21, 1882. Deposits on the first day totaled $5,626.53 and the main bank still sits in the original spot. They now have branches in Laurie, Sunrise Beach (Shawnee Bend), and Greenview.

    October 5-6th is the Versailles 40th Anniversary Apple Festival, always a great time! Parade, sock hop, vendors, apple pie contest, live entertainment, car show and of course lots and lots of delicious apples. Celebration starts Friday, October 5th, 7:00 p.m. at the crowning of the Queen and King with a list of fun activities till Sunday, October 6th at 4:00 p.m. Schedule of events is below.

    Versailles is located in Morgan County and was established as the county seat in 1854. The late 1800's saw Swiss and German families, many of whom were Mennonites, settle in this town. The Mennonite population continues to thrive today.

    Morgan County was named for the Revolutionary War General Daniel Morgan on January 5, 1833. The beautiful court house that is in the town square was constructed in 1889, and is currently still in use, Several buildings in the Versailles town square are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Morgan County consists of 594 square miles and today has an approximate population of 25,000 people.
