It's easy to enjoy life in Ottawa. Small things like the smell of fresh blooming flowers make me happy now. I pay attention to the sounds the birds make, the way the water sounds flowing through the creek, and how my children's laughter makes my heart happy. Let's remember to look at the small things around us. There is much to be thankful for in this town. Let's be thankful that we are here to experience the beauty of nature.

Legacy Square is a great place for the community to come together to host and attend events. Flea markets, concerts and farmers markets are some examples of what the Square has to offer.
We welcome this to our community and hope that they stay busy once the weather heats up!

After a couple of years of building the Performing Arts Center at the Ottawa High School, it is finally complete. This is a welcome addition not only to the high school, but to the community as well. The students are excited about having such a modern addition to the school. You should go check it out sometime!

The annual Ol' Marais River Run car show is one of the biggest events put on in Ottawa. This year will mark the 33rd year of the event. Over the Road Gang was the original creator of the show and have been the ones to organize it ever since. The event is typically held the third weekend of September, this year it will start Friday, September 20th at 3:00 p.m. and goes till Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Saturday there will be a back to the 60's cruise night down main street from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Most main street businesses will stay open late and will have lots of food. Always a great time and a must see!

Ottawa USD 290 school year is about to begin. As we see the streets becoming busier with cars and children going to school we must be mindful and cautious of children crossing the streets.

The Ottawa area has seen a lot of rain and storms over the last two days. This is causing flooding concerns. Always remember, turn around, don't drown.

What a nice and refreshing view as I drive around the town of Ottawa. The trees have bloomed so beautifully this year. I find that the beautiful colors on trees and bushes are so refreshing to see and helps bring a smile to my face! After such a long, dark winter, it is wonderful to see that we are granted another spring with fabulous color and light! As the days grow longer, we are outside more into the evening watching our kids play. I like to just take a moment to slow down and actually enjoy the view. These views are given to me, and I cherish each and every one!

This is a place for teens to go and play basketball, do some skateboarding and even show off their artistic talents. This park is even being added on to with more things going up to keep the teens of this community busy! Go by and check out the progress as the park sits just off of 15th Street to the south! Have fun!

Spring has finally sprung for us in Kansas! I know it Ottawa, that means farmers markets, craft shows, garage sales, and many more outdoor activities! Spring is a time to get reacquainted with neighbors and friends! Get out and explore this community and maybe you will stumble upon something fun and exciting that you never knew about!

The town of Ottawa is preparing for spring and summer. There is a pop up nursery on 23rd St. to purchase flowers and plants to make your yard look amazing this summer. The City of Ottawa is working on the swimming pool getting it ready for the upcoming summer season. Warm weather is approaching!

Christmas time is special for so many different reasons. I enjoy gathering my Christmas decorations and having my children help me decorate the tree. I have some very special ornaments that have been given to me over the years from grandparents. These ornaments are very special to me and I will treasure them forever. I have also made this a tradition with my children over the last few years. I like to go downtown in Ottawa to the local stores to find that very special ornament for each of my three children. I purchase ornaments each year and have my children open them on Christmas day. That way, next year they will be able to place it on the tree .I like to personalize the ornaments to my children's interests and personalities. I have my oldest who is into gaming, my middle child is into sports and my youngest is into the outdoors.
My hope for the future is that my children will take these ornaments with them when they decide to leave our home and create new memories with their families.

This is a pretty area with beautiful homes. Most have small acreage. Quiet community and homes protected with covenants. Price range is from $225,000 - to $380,000. Easy Access to I-35 and shopping conveniences. Close to Ottawa's new elementary school. A little ways down the road from that is the high school and middle school.

Easter eggs are hidden all around Forrest Park as the kids anxiously wait for the whistle to blow so that they can start hunting! Children everywhere, dressed in their jackets as it is a chilly day. Smiles and screams as the whistle blows and the hunt is on. Children running with their Easter baskets in hand, scooping up as many eggs as they can.

After all of the eggs are gathered the children run to their parents, and show off their finds and start counting their eggs. Candy filled eggs are an exciting way to start the day at the park.

Stay in town to ice skate. Yes, you heard me right, ice skating is now ready for our community at Forest Park. The city of Ottawa created a place for young and old alike to go enjoy a winter favorite. This is definitely something you would want to check out for a fun outdoor adventure.
I for one have never been ice skating, but it is something that I have always wanted to try. So, maybe I will see you at Forest Park at the newly created ice skating ring.

Maggie's Popcorn & Nuts is our newest shop downtown. The store offers a variety of gourmet popcorn and nuts, old fashioned candies, salt water taffy and old fashioned dipping ice cream. Yummy.

Good times can be had playing bingo. It is always fun to get together with friends and play. Bingo at the local VFW is a great way to spend some evenings during the week!

I like to attend the art class at Washburn Towers. Painting and coloring are just a few of the things the art class offers. I am no artist, but I enjoy being creative with other peers!

I like stopping by the Ottawa Library for their creative writing classes. I like to write and its fun to bounce different ideas off of other people! Ottawa Library is a great place to learn new things.

Just a heads up about the prediction of an ice storm this weekend for our area. Please take caution when driving or even walking on the ice. It sounds like it will be best to stay inside.

Chicks with Sticks will be held on Thursday, January 12, from 6:00-7: p.m. at the Ottawa Library located at 105 S Hickory Street in Ottawa, KS 66067. Join this wonderful group of sewing and textile artists. It's fun and informal. Bring a sewing or knitting project to work on or share with the group.
