    One of my favorite little bakeries is McLain's which is located on the southeast corner of Gregory Blvd and Grand. I remember my dad always bringing home their chocolate chip cookies and butter rolls back in the '70s. The store has been around since 1945 and is still an iconic place. The bakery items are still just as yummy and they have expanded their menu to include breakfast and lunch items. A must stop if you're in the Brookside neighborhood!!

    Brady & Fox is an excellent dining option where you'll find authentic Irish fare served by friendly folk. Crab stuffed salmon was incredibly tasty, but the bangers and mash and the cottage pie are also highly recommended by other regulars. Bill and Marlena are both friendly and funny, adding that extra touch of fun. The tables are spaced nicely apart and there's a casual seating area for lounging with friends who enjoy grown up beverages.

The one thing that Carmen's Cafe is the ambiance and style of food! You don't normally hear of Spanish cuisine when you think Italian food!     I love Fountain Day in Kansas City. This year they are supposed to spring back to life on April 17th. Due to COVID19 and the chilly weather, it is my understanding that this should still happen. You may not believe that there are more than 200 fountains around the Kansas City urban area.

    As a life long resident, the fountains in Kansas City are one of the first things I talk about with buyers moving into the area!. Drive up and down Ward Parkway and through the Plaza and you'll see why Kansas City residents have a great appreciation and love for their fountains!     While COVID is going on, we are all challenged with what to eat, either fixing at home or carry out. We all want to support local small restaurants that are providing for all of us during this trying time. A few places we've supported and eat often (pre-COVID-19) are Jalapenos, D'Bronx Deli, Governor Stumpy's and Bella Napoli. A few others; Aixois in Crestwood and who could forget Winstead's on the Plaza. And... I love to grab a warm drink at The Roasterie on Main St. drive-thru. Super friendly baristas! We will get through this eventually.

    The Crossroads (officially the Crossroads Arts District) is a historic neighborhood near Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. It is centered at approximately 19th Street and Baltimore Avenue, directly south of the downtown loop and north of Crown Center. It is the city's main art gallery district and center for the visual arts. Dozens of galleries are located in its renovated warehouses and industrial buildings. It is also home to numerous restaurants, housewares shops, architects, designers, an advertising agency, and other visual artists. The district also has several live music venues as well.

    We have sold many condos downtown and this is one of the big reasons people are loving the Crossroads.

    These darling storefronts opened in 1921 as one of Kansas City's first neighborhood shopping centers. It is a "sweet spot" for sure!!! There are fabulous restaurants and truly one of a kind speciality shops. We had dinner with some friends last weekend at Cafe Europa and it was delicious, as always!

    Tis the season for "pot holes" around the city. Call 3-1-1 and report them to the City Services of Kansas City. They also have a great website (kcmo.gov) that I've used a million times to report various issues around the city such as broken picnic tables at parks, low lying tree limbs, burnt out street lights, etc. I love to use it for "bulky item pick-up". It makes it so easy to schedule an appointment.

    When I'm out showing houses it is so fun to see all the red and white that is flowing through our city. Sellers are flying Chiefs flag and banners and have red/white lights on their houses and trees!! Our city is so thirsty for this win! I remember my parents going to the Chiefs game back in the day. I was six years old when we won the last super bowl! Best of luck to our Chiefs and all of the Chiefs Kingdom that is traveling to cheer them on to victory.

    Sewer Line Repairs
    I get asked a lot about sewer line repairs and it comes up in most every transaction I handle in Brookside, Prairie Village, Mission Hills and any older home area that I'm selling in whether for my buyers or sellers. All buyers of late do a sewer line inspection when they are purchasing a home which makes sellers (believe it or not, buyers as well) nervous during the inspection process, but most of the time it is a spot repair where the whole line doesn't need replacing. A lot of lines have small cracks that have been there for years.

    As scary as this "sounds" it's really a simple fix for the plumbers. It can be one of the more costly repairs but not as costly as a roof or a structural problem. So... if it's your dream home, don't let this issue get in the way. Remember, all things are negotiable so listen to your Realtor as they will guide you thru this step.

    When buying in an older neighborhood, remember that we aren't buying a new or perfect house. We are buying an older home for all the things we love, such as charm, sidewalks, mature trees, parks, the Trolley Trail, being able to walk to restaurants and most of all a community!!!

    Have you ever been to the ballet at the Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts? I saw the Nutcraker and Carmina Burana this past winter. I kept thinking how much time and effort must be put into a production. Hope to see Swan Lake that runs February. 14 - 23rd, 2020.

    If you haven't had a chance to visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, it's a must see for all ages. Their exhibits are so diverse and their art classes and workshops are great. I loved their 9-hole putt putt course they had this past summer, it was a huge hit.

    If you're looking for a spring or fall soccer team for your kiddo you can sign up thru the Sporting Brookside Soccer League. I know a lot of kids that play in this league year after year and I love what it offers kids of all ages.     Boo! As we all know, Brookside is one of those special places in our city, especially for all the "holiday" festivities that take place. The Brookside Trick or Treat Street is so much fun as all the shop owners are passing out tricks and treats to the little ones. It's a great setting and I love all the costumes worn by some of the shop owners. This years event is October 31st from 4:00-6:00 p.m.! Happy Halloween!

    One of my very favorite - if you like art and the plaza, this is the perfect mix. There are over 200 artists that come from all over the U.S to present their art. The fair provides live music as well as food booths from the plaza restaurants. There is a kids corner so there is something for all ages. It's a fun event for art lovers or not! If you are new to Kansas City or visiting from out of town, this is a must event! The 88th annual art fair is September 20-22nd.
