Kearney, Missouri is located in Clay County about 15 minutes north of Kansas City and has a population of 8,381. Each September, the city hosts an annual festival celebrating its distinction as the birthplace of outlaw Jesse James. The James farm with the original house and Jesse James’s burial site are a popular tourist attraction. The Kearney School District serves about 3,500 families in Kearney and northern Clay County.
The city of Kearney reopened Lion's Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. on June 18th. The park is located at 340 S. Jefferson in Kearney. The city, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Kearney Enrichment Council, and the Department of Natural Resources all worked together to bring this treasure back to life. The park has new playground equipment, restrooms, seating, and a picnic shelter. The crowning jewel is the new splash pad for kids of all ages to enjoy!
