    Smithsonian Exhibit Coming to Kearney
    The Smithsonian exhibit, Crossroads: "Change in Rural America", is being hosted at Mid-Continent Public Library in Kearney, MO, beginning on Friday May 10th thru June 21st. The exhibit will feature how small rural towns have changed over the century and the cultural treasures they hold.
    Along with the exhibit, the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a quilt walk which starts at the Farmers Market on Saturday morning the 11th, and quilts can be found around town at various business. Radiant Life Church is hosting a gym full of quilts on the 11th from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
    What an amazing opportunity for the community to have a very professional exhibit which is only being hosted in five towns within the state of Missouri.

    City of Kearney Conducts Pool Survey
    The city of Kearney is for the most part a bedroom community. Located just 10 minutes north of Liberty, and 25 minutes north of downtown Kansas City. As a bedroom community, most of the working population commutes, and those that are employed in town are for the most part, in the service industry. Kearney Proper doesn't have a lot of tax-generating businesses.

    This is an important fact, because community swimming pools take a lot of money to build and operate, and they all take tax money. So the city is conducting a survey to see what the desires are of its citizens, but also what the willingness of the community is towards raising taxes to have a pool and amenities. The survey can be found on the City of Kearney's website and its social media platforms. If you are a resident of Kearney the city leadership would love for you to take a few minutes of your time to take the survey and let your voice be heard.

    Every year on Friday before Halloween, downtown Kearney is flooded with ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and other creative costumes for the downtown trick-or-treat event. Merchants in the downtown district open their doors to the little ones (and not so little) and merchants, organizations, and individuals from the other parts of the community also set up trick or treats in the Old Church Plaza to host anywhere from 800-1,200 kids.

    Safety is thought of by having volunteer groups be crossing guards, and also Kearney's finest police officers have a patrol car close to city hall where kids can interact with the officers, get some candy, and the officers are available just in case an emergency was to arise. Mark your calendars for October 28th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and bring your little ones downtown to enjoy some daylight safe and friendly trick or treating. You will be glad you did.

    Last 4th Fridays Music in the Park for the Summer
    August 23rd will be the last concert in the Chamber of Commerce Music in the Park series for 2019. The featured band is the Rippers and they play some fun 50's,60's and 70's music.
    Grab your lawn chairs, bring a picnic dinner if you like and a beverage and enjoy a free fun filled evening in Lions Club Park.

    This neighborhood is located in the growing town of Kearney, Missouri. You can get quality new construction homes as well as existing homes. It is located on the southeast side of Kearney. I like the location because it is just down the road from the high school and elementary school. It is also not far from Penrod's Greenhouse which is a long-time favorite of the area!

    A New Destination Spot in Town
    Things are happening in the downtown area of Kearney. Just this last week, Cellar & Loft, a wine and and pizza specialty shop opened its doors to the excitement of many. You can gather around the table and sip a glass of wine or beer after work, or enjoy a nice pizza dinner accompanied by a specialty beer.

    The shop features a wine club that you can participate in and has lockers for delivery to you. The locals are excited that visitors from Kansas City and beyond are going to stop in and see something that they've known all along...Kearney is a great place to visit, work and live.     Downtown Revitalization Shopping
    Kearney started the process of revitalizing their downtown area with the help of the Missouri Main Street Program about a year ago. Since the start of this process there have been many baby steps of progress. This past summer a farmers market was started with lots vendors and various local farmers that feature produce, beef, chicken and pork as well as a few that make fresh pies and bread. Yummo! Next year the organizers are planning to make the market bigger and better.

    The downtown merchants hosted a trick or treat on the 30th of October. Then the Old Firehouse had multiple things going on inside of it also. There were almost 1,000 kids in attendance, so I think they considered it a success!

    Visit Kearney for some holiday shopping. Coming up on the 5th of December, the merchants are sponsoring a Holiday Open House with lots of fun shopping and activities. Looks like a community that is working to keeps its small town feel even as they are one of the fastest growing communities in Missouri!
