The cemetery was founded 1865. The original land was donated to what at the time was called the Town of Strother by William B. Howard. Land was acquired and added on through 1907. Among the residents are many Civil War Veterans, Quantrills Raiders and influenza victims from the 1918 outbreak. The cemetery's most famous resident is Cole Younger who was buried in 1915. Younger was part of the James-Younger Gang and rode alongside Jesse James. The city does an amazing job decorating for Memorial Day and Fourth of July.

Jack Stack has been a fixture in the Kansas City BBQ community. I was so excited when a Lee's Summit location opened up in 2015. Like the other locations it is a wonderful place to grab lunch or dinner. The staff is friendly and engaging. The wings are amazing. The sandwiches will fill you up and the cheesy corn is to die for. So glad we can get our BBQ fix closer to home.

Downtown Lee's Summit has so much going for it. It looks like more people/organizations are starting to take notice! The Downtown Lee's Summit Neighborhood was just recognized as one of the three best neighborhoods in Missouri. This is a great honor in deed! With an increase in businesses, jobs, and improvements made to sidewalks, lighting, planting of trees, addition of new buildings, and renovation of existing buildings, the area has become attractive to many. This recognition is well deserved.

If you are looking for a new date night dinner spot check out Third Street Social. The owners of Summit Grill have opened another restaurant in Downtown Lee’s Summit. This is scratch comfort cooking at its best; also venture over to their Seafood restaurant Pearl Tavern. I’m big on non-chain restaurants and these are three totally different places owned by the same people.

Have you ever considered sending your dog to daycare? Or need a great place to board your dog or cat? What about grooming needs for your pets? Summit Pet Care far exceeded the expectation on how they love their fur clients! The doggie daycare has a large outdoor play area with things for the dogs to climb on, play chase and fetch, as well as just socialize with lots of other dogs. There is a nice size indoor play area for those bad weather days too. They have an extensive area for boarding, with options of having different size runs, some that have outside access and the ability to house dogs together from the same homes. There is also cat boarding, along with other types of animals boarding options. Such a loving place for your furry friends!

This is a wonderful senior community in Lee's Summit. Super close to all your recreation, shopping and medical needs. My mom was fiercely independent and private and was very against moving into a senior community. After a very harsh winter we convinced her to take a winter stay there. She loved it so much she stayed for the two years before she passed away. Those two years were some of the most active of her life. She made wonderful friends and even won a few Wii Bowling tournaments. I cannot recommend this place enough!

These events are fun for people of all ages to enjoy.
  • For years, my husband and I have gone all the way to the B&B Theater on Strang Line Road in Olathe, not necessarily to have an adult drink before, during or after the movie. Or the nice little meals that they served to us. But we definitely traveled the distance in order to have a reclining seat that gave us plenty of room for stretching out and getting comfortable. In the same respect to the movie goer behind us, they are able to stretch out and get comfortable without kicking our seats throughout the movie experience! We now have this local convenient option at the B & B In Lee's Summit. Every seat reclines! Giving us the moving experience that we are looking for!

Powell Gardens is a place to enjoy all throughout the year. They have the most amazing events throughout the year and the most beautiful botanical garden. However, the Festival of Lights is one of my favorite events. They have a glowing light display that can be enjoyed during a one-mile walk that magnifies the Holiday season and it is such a joy to experience! When you are finished enjoying the cold winter walk, you can go to the Grand Hall and enjoy hot chocolate or hot cider to warm you up. Another sight to see is the tour of the train garden that resides in the magical domed conservatory. The Festival of Lights can be enjoyed from 4:00-10:00 p.m., from Thursday - Sunday starting December 1st and ending January 6th.
