When the urge to take a beautiful walk comes upon you, head to one of the access points to Mill Creek Streamway Park. This amazing, linear park runs north and south through the cities of Lenexa, Shawnee, and Olathe. The trail begins on Nelson Island on the Kansas River and goes all the way to Olathe—about 17 miles! The walking/biking trail is named the Gary L Haller Trail and it is designated as a National Recreational Trail. What an amenity for people in Johnson County, Kansas. There are eight access points and three of them are in Lenexa. Much of the Lenexa part of the trail parallels active train tracks, and there are some very scenic overlooks there. If you are on a long walk, you will have lots of support in the way of drinking fountains and restrooms. There are plenty of benches along the way too where you can take a break. Many spurs from the trail go through other parks and destinations such as Blackhoof Park/Lake Lenexa.
