Thinking of a new place to try for lunch or dinner? Look no further than Catch 22, located in downtown Liberty, MO. It's on the awesome historic square, is locally owned, and offers a huge variety of items for every appetite! Everything on the menu is made from scratch when you order it - yum! Last time I met my girlfriend there, we split the Trash Can Beef Nachos, and each had a salad with grilled chicken (I had mine grilled buffalo style). Talk about the perfect amount of food (I even had some to take home for leftovers...let me tell you what, the homemade blue cheese salad dressing was better the second day). From hamburgers to salads to loaded tots and craft beer (and wine), what could be better? Please give it a shot! Closed Sundays and Mondays!

Winter weather in Kansas City can hit hard and fast. With snow in the forecast and dangerously cold temperatures on the way, taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference if you find yourself out on the road in bad conditions. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are urging everyone to think through their winter plans before heading out this week.

One of the biggest risks in winter storms is getting stranded or delayed on slick roads. That’s why having a well-stocked emergency kit in your car isn’t just a good idea—it could be essential. At the heart of this preparation is making sure you can stay warm, stay visible, and stay connected if travel becomes difficult or slow.

Start with the basics. Jumper cables are important because cold temperatures can sap battery power and leave you unable to start your car. Blankets, extra coats, and gloves provide insulation if you end up waiting for help. Water and non-perishable snacks like granola bars or nuts help you stay hydrated and fueled without access to stores. An ice scraper and a small shovel are practical tools that let you clear windshields and dig out if you get stuck.

A first-aid kit and a flashlight with spare batteries are essential for emergencies you hope never happen but should be prepared for. A bag of sand or cat litter can give your tires traction if you’re stuck on icy pavement, and a tow rope can make it easier for another vehicle to help you out. Don’t forget your phone charger so you can keep your device powered up—your phone could be your lifeline for weather updates or help from emergency services. Keeping your gas tank at least half full also ensures you can run the heater if needed.

If you do have to drive during snow or extreme cold, local authorities remind drivers to take it slow and give themselves extra space on the road. Checking travel maps before you leave can help you avoid trouble spots, and in Missouri, you can call *55 for highway patrol assistance, while in Kansas, you can dial *47 if you need help.

Winter preparedness isn’t just about stocking supplies—it’s also about planning ahead and making smart decisions. Avoid travel if at all possible when a storm arrives, and if you must go out, make sure your vehicle and emergency kit are ready. A little preparation now can turn a difficult situation into a manageable one once the snow starts to fall.

As freezing temperatures settle in across the region, finding a warm place to get out of the elements can be a matter of health and safety. In Liberty, Missouri, there are several community resources offering shelter, warmth, and support through this cold weekend.

One important local hub is Freedom House, a community services organization that connects people to local assistance and support ministries. Freedom House provides a central point where individuals can be guided toward available resources and support during times of need. Their door is open to help people navigate options in the community.

Another local partner in support is Hillcrest Hope. Hillcrest Hope works to support individuals and families facing instability, offering programs designed to help people build resilience and access basic needs. While not a traditional overnight shelter, they are a local contact point for support and connections to resources that can help during extreme weather. Close by, Hillcrest Transitional Housing focuses on moving people from homelessness toward stable housing. If you or someone you know is struggling to find warmth and a safe place to stay, this organization can help with broader housing support and referrals.

In addition to local Liberty resources, the wider Kansas City metro activates winter cold-weather shelter services during extreme cold. These shelters open their doors each night to provide overnight warmth and safety. Groups such as the Kansas City Rescue Mission’s Shelter KC locations, City Union Mission, and Unity Southeast Emergency Warming Shelter operate winter shelter programs with beds, food, and warm spaces. The city’s winter extreme weather plan coordinates these partner shelters to ensure beds and spaces are available through the cold season. Conditions and hours can vary, so it’s a good idea to contact the shelters or the city cold-weather hotline to confirm availability and arrival details.

Finally, every day community spaces like the Liberty Community Center and local Mid-Continent Public Library branches may offer a heated public space during regular daytime hours. If you are just looking for a safe, warm place to escape the cold for a few hours, these public facilities can be a welcoming stop.

If someone’s situation is urgent or they need emergency shelter right now, calling 211 or the local cold-weather hotline can help connect them quickly to open beds, warming centers, and transportation options.

Liberty isn’t just a place you live; it’s a place where traditions quietly shape everyday life. Some are obvious—Friday night lights, fall festivals, and parades that bring the whole town out. Others are smaller, almost unnoticed, but just as meaningful. It’s the way neighbors still wave when you pass them on a walk. The familiar faces you see year after year at school events, local shops, and community fundraisers. The pride residents take in supporting local teams, businesses, and causes—not because it’s trendy, but because it’s what you do here.

One of Liberty’s most defining traits is its ability to grow without losing its sense of connection. New neighborhoods, restaurants, and amenities continue to pop up, yet the town still feels approachable and rooted. People care about where Liberty has been, even as they plan for where it’s going. That balance is rare—and it’s something longtime residents and newcomers alike notice quickly.

Liberty also has a way of making big moments feel personal. Milestones like graduations, championships, and community celebrations don’t feel distant or impersonal here. They feel shared. Success is celebrated collectively, and challenges are met the same way—with people stepping up, lending a hand, and showing up.

Whether you’ve lived here for decades or just recently found your way to the area, Liberty has a knack for making you feel like you belong. It’s not flashy. It’s not trying to be something it’s not. And that’s exactly why so many people are proud to call it home.
