The Craic (pronounced crack) is a fun little joint located in downtown Parkville and has an Irish flair. The location was built in 1927 and served as the original post office for the city of Parkville - very cool! My husband and I went in there for a drink before our dinner reservations, and both were so impressed. The vibe is very laid back and local. The minute we walked in, we were greeted by the bartender, who made room for us at the bar. A one-man band was playing, and the music was perfect to complete the welcoming introduction. We will CERTAINLY be back as we love to support local places and downtown Parkville. Give it a try and let me know what you think! Visit the link below for hours and location. Cheers!

If you are looking for an intimate place that is delicious and small, look no further, as Parker Hollow is locally owned and is FABULOUS! My hubs and I had the pleasure of celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary there last weekend and were blown away by how wonderful it was with its service, food, and atmosphere. We truly didn't feel like we were in Kansas City. They have an oyster sommelier who was informative about all of the different featured oysters for that day. We both were amazed at his knowledge and suggestions for our choices - all 3 different kinds were delish! We split a beet salad, shared oysters, and I ordered the Fisherman's Stew. My husband had the Halibut - both dishes were fabulous, and we will certainly be back for another celebration. It's located in the heart of downtown Parkville and is such a cool place - I cannot say enough nice things about it, and if I could, would rate it 10/5 stars. There are some places you visit expecting to simply take a few photos, enjoy the scenery, and move on with your day. For me, the Parkville Nature Sanctuary ended up being more than that.

I originally decided to visit because I wanted to explore another part of Parkville and create some local content. It was overcast when I arrived, and by the time I stepped onto the trails beneath the tree canopy, it had started lightly raining. Not enough to ruin the walk — just enough to make everything feel quieter. The sanctuary itself is beautiful. Trails wind through wooded areas, over bridges, and past creeks and waterfalls. Everything felt intentionally maintained without losing the feeling of being in nature. The trails were clearly marked, railings had obviously been repaired recently in some areas, and benches were scattered throughout the sanctuary for people to stop and rest.

One of the first trails I took led fairly quickly to a waterfall. It was peaceful, easy to access, and honestly impressive considering how tucked away it felt. Standing there in the rain, listening to the water and looking at the rocks and roots around it, I understood immediately why so many people love this place. But for some reason, I also found myself wanting to keep walking. So I took a second trail.

This one was longer, steeper, and more uneven in places. The rain picked up a little, and parts of the trail became slick enough that I had to slow down and pay more attention to where I was stepping. There were uphill climbs, muddy patches, and stretches where the canopy opened just enough for the rain to come through. Somewhere along that second trail, the walk stopped being about content creation. Instead, I started noticing smaller things.

A squirrel crying somewhere high in the trees that I couldn’t find, no matter how long I looked. The quiet sound of water moving through the brush. The care that clearly goes into maintaining a place like this. Families walking together, people exercising, groups of friends talking, and others simply walking alone in silence. Everyone was there for different reasons, but the space held all of it. I think that’s what stayed with me the most.

Places like this don’t happen accidentally. They exist because people care enough to maintain them, protect them, and create space for others to experience them in their own way. By the time I made it back to my car, my shoes were dirty, but not nearly as muddy as I expected, considering the rain. Maybe that detail stuck with me because it felt symbolic in a way I can’t fully explain yet.

I stopped by downtown Parkville before the Memorial Day Carnival officially opened and was reminded how much local traditions shape the feeling of a place. Before the lights, music, and crowds arrive, there’s a quiet moment where the carnival almost feels frozen in time.

Events like this are part of what gives Parkville its small-town charm and strong sense of community. From local gatherings to seasonal traditions, these experiences are often what make people feel connected long after they move in.

The Memorial Day Carnival returns to downtown Parkville this weekend with rides, games, food, and live entertainment for the community to enjoy.

Platte Landing Park continues to be a popular destination in Parkville, and the addition of the new double-lane pedestrian bridge makes it even more accessible for walking, biking, and enjoying the riverfront. The bridge connects key areas of the park and improves the overall flow for visitors using the trails.

This park is known for its scenic Missouri River views, open green space, playground, and frequent community events. Improvements like this help support the active, outdoor lifestyle many residents enjoy in Parkville. With easy access to downtown shops and restaurants nearby, Platte Landing Park remains a central gathering place for both residents and visitors looking to spend time outdoors.

Deviant Kava, located at 405 Main Street, is one of the locally owned coffee shops that adds to the character of downtown Parkville. The shop is set inside a historic home, creating a cozy atmosphere that fits well with the charm of the surrounding area.

I’ve stopped in a few times and recently tried their Samoan Hotspot iced latte, which combines Ghirardelli chocolate with a subtle serrano pepper kick. It’s a unique option that reflects the creative feel of many small businesses in downtown Parkville.

This part of Main Street is walkable and makes it easy to explore nearby boutiques, restaurants, and riverfront parks. Spots like Deviant Kava contribute to the relaxed, community-oriented environment that attracts both residents and visitors to downtown Parkville.
  • Downtown Parkville is one of those places that makes you slow down without even trying.
Between the brick streets, local shops, and little coffee spots, it has a charm that feels real, not manufactured. You can spend an afternoon wandering in and out of boutiques, grabbing lunch at a locally owned restaurant, and somehow losing track of time.

One of my favorite things about Parkville is how close nature is to everything. English Landing Park runs right along the river and is always full of walkers, families, and community events. And if you want something quieter, the Parkville Nature Sanctuary is right there with wooded trails and scenic overlooks.

Whether it’s a festival weekend or just a random Tuesday, downtown Parkville always feels welcoming, peaceful, and full of character. It’s the kind of place people don’t just visit once. They come back.

Park Place Grille is so yummy, the atmosphere is fun, and the location is easy to park! All of the great things you need in a locally owned restaurant. My friend and I had lunch there yesterday, and we were very impressed. Located alongside the majestic Missouri River in Parkville, Missouri, English Landing Park offers a serene escape for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. Spanning 68 acres, this picturesque park boasts a rich history, scenic walking trails, and a range of amenities that make it a favorite destination for locals and visitors. Whether you enjoy jogging, biking, picnicking, or simply immersing yourself in nature, English Landing Park has something for everyone to enjoy.

English Landing Park was once comprised of low-water areas along the Missouri River, but today it stands as a testament to the transformation of the landscape. In 1838, Colonel George S. Park, a Texas War of Independence veteran, purchased the land from the English Brothers. He acquired a riverboat landing along with the parkland, later becoming a notorious port of call for the slave trade during the Civil War. Despite the city of Parkville not being a Civil War battlefield, the area witnessed tragic events as enslaved individuals sought freedom by crossing the river into Kansas. Unmarked cemeteries in the present-day Misty Woods subdivision serve as a solemn reminder of this dark chapter in history.

Recreation and amenities: One of the highlights of English Landing Park is its three-mile jogging and biking trail that winds along the edge of the Missouri River. As you navigate this scenic pathway, you'll be captivated by the stunning natural beauty surrounding you, including ages-old weeping willow trees and cottonwoods of incredible height. There are numerous 5K and 10K races throughout the year on its flat, crushed gravel paths. The park also features multiple shelters for picnics, a soccer field, a baseball diamond, and two playgrounds designed for small and bigger kids. For those seeking a unique and active experience, the park offers a recently added nine-hole disc golf course that meanders around the jogging/biking trail.

The park's crown jewel is the historic Waddell "A" Truss Bridge, which was built in 1898 and is the subject of a patent. This iconic bridge spans the enchanting Linn Branch Creek and serves as a reminder of the area's rich architectural heritage. Moreover, English Landing Park offers a boat ramp, sand volleyball court, and a large playground area, ensuring no shortage of recreational options. The newest addition to the park is an off-leash dog park, free and open to the public, on the park's West end. Explore downtown Parkville nearby, with tons of shopping and dining experiences, after a stroll through the park.

Events and Rental Opportunities: English Landing Park provides a charming setting for special events and family gatherings. With three shelters, two stages, three practice baseball fields, one soccer practice field, and three sand volleyball courts available for rent, the park offers a range of rental options to accommodate your needs. To learn more about reservations and availability, click on the Park Reservations quick links provided on the park's website (linked below).

English Landing Park welcomes visitors daily from 5:30 a.m. until midnight, providing ample opportunity to explore its natural wonders and engage in recreational activities. Whether you're an avid cyclist or runner, a leisurely walker, or a nature enthusiast, this park offers an idyllic trip into nature's beauty and an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
