Lenexa, Kansas, located in central Johnson County, is home to about 48,000 residents. The city of Lenexa is served by the award winning school districts of Olathe, Shawnee Mission and De Soto. The city has a mix of established neighborhoods in the east and a fast growing area in the west. There are over 30 different parks in Lenexa, including the 80 acre Lake Lenexa at Black Hoof park, and a number of large boulevards and parkways, such as Prairie Star Parkway and Renner Boulevard that welcome residents and businesses alike. UPS and Quest Diagnostics are the city’s top employers.
Lenexa was the spinach growing capital of the world in the 1930's. How's that for a claim to fame? Lenexa residents love any excuse to have fun, so each September there is a Spinach Festival at the impressive Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park near 87th Street and Lackman Road. This year's festival was Saturday, September 12th, and it was the most perfect weather you could imagine. There were craft booths, tons of food vendors, and spinach was a featured item. There was live music and activities for the kids. This was my idea of a perfect day in the park.
