    The new Kansas City North Menards MEGA Store located at 8901 N Green Hills Road, opened for business on January 31st and the parking lot has been full ever since. Menards is a family owned company that has been in business for almost 60 years with 305 stores throughout the Midwest, including recently opened stores in Belton, MO, Independence, MO and Olathe, KS.

    Jeff Abbott, Menards spokesperson, stated that the company appreciates all the hard work and dedication from everyone involved in this massive project. The intent is to provide its customers with greater access to a truly full-line of building materials and supplies at the lowest price in the area Consistent with its reputation of having a complete selection of high-quality, name brand merchandise, tools for any job and state-of-the-art computers to assist in project design.

    All the "normal" home improvement products are offered, along with brand name appliances, pet and wildlife products, lawn and garden supplies, plus convenience groceries as a one-stop shopping experience.

    Check it out from Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with Sunday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Menards will prove to be a valuable resource for the Northland with employment opportunities and economic growth in the expanding 152 corridor.

    The real estate market’s pretty balanced right now. There’s about 2.76 months of inventory, which means homes are selling fast, and there aren’t a ton of options out there, so buyers are facing some competition. Interestingly, inventory’s gone up by 31.43% over the past year. That could mean more choices for buyers soon, but sellers might have to price their homes smartly to stand out. Houses are selling quickly—most are off the market in about 37 days. They’re also going for about 99.3% of the asking price, so buyers are willing to pay pretty close to what sellers are asking. The median sold price is holding steady at $355,000 ??, which is good news for sellers.
    Overall, it’s a solid market for both buyers and sellers. Buyers need to move quickly, and sellers should price competitively to stay ahead. If you’re thinking about buying or selling, now’s a good time to make a move!

    They broke ground on the Central Bank Sporting Complex on Friday, June 18th, 2021. This will have ten turf fields for many sports from baseball, football, soccer to lacrosse as well as other activities. The projected completion of the facility is late summer of 2022, just in time for fall sports leagues. The complex will have lighted parking and trail access for foot traffic from surrounding, future, neighborhoods as well as concessions, restrooms, and playgrounds. The Northland is so excited for this complex to open.

The 8th annual Jack & Coke Bike Ride is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2017, and is a benefit ride for The American Cancer Society in memory of Jack Polson.     Remembering Bill Grigsby
    Bill Grigsby - The Prince of Parkville - may be returning to its downtown location to oversee such things and events as community festivals and parades. A commemorative statue of Bill was originally dedicated in 2007 at The National Golf Club where he was a regular. It has since been removed and placed in storage. A group of citizens led by the owner of Stone Canyon Pizza, Kevin Heaton, is putting forth an effort to move the statue to Pocket Park in downtown Parkville.

    When, and if, the statue is placed in Pocket Park it will become the property of the city. But the citizen group will be responsible for the cost of moving, restoring, installing and maintaining the statue for several years after it is installed. And, Pocket Park is currently paved with bricks, purchased by donors, with inscriptions and some of those bricks or a bench would likely have to be moved to allow the status to be installed.

    Bill was a regular host and emcee for the annual 4th of July parade in addition to hosting the Parkville Days River Fest Parade, Parkville Jazz Fest, and the Blue Grass Block Party. He was one of the original founders of Parkville's Christmas on the River. The main baseball field in English Landing Park is named Grigsby Field in his honor. He passed away in 2011 from complications associated with prostrate cancer.

    Approval for a residential development of single family homes in Platte City is in place. Windmill Creek would be located on about 80 acres south of Highway 92 between I-29 and Bethel Road. The estimated average selling price for these homes is $225,000 with about 30 to 50 houses being built over the next 5+ years.

    A development agreement is required by the Board of Alderman prior to beginning any development activity. The project will thus be done in phases, and the developer is responsible for all design, engineering, funding and construction of all interior road, curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, potable water, street lights, signage, fire protection, among other municipal improvements.

    Saturday, December 3rd, is the date for the 5th Annual Platte County Day of Hope. This event was originally organized by the Platte County Health Department and the Platte City Ministerial Alliance to assist families with necessary items for the winter and provide long lasting hope. With over 28% of Platte County's kids qualifying for free or reduced price lunches - there are a significant number of households struggling financially.

    The DAY OF HOPE has become a day of making a difference, as families will receive new coats, hats, gloves, socks, underwear and Christmas items for children along with groceries, hygiene products, free hair cuts and Community Resource information. More than 340 families (i.e. nearly 550 adults and almost 1,000 kids) are already registered. The need is real and growing. Donations of books, balls (i.e., baseballs, soccer balls, footballs, basketballs), board games or even gift cards for older children are welcomed.
