    The Theatre in the Park is located at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee. June 3rd was their first show in over a year. From what we saw, they are back and better than ever! Shows this summer include Mama Mia, Curtains, Cinderella, Halftime, Newsies, and The Full Monte! Bring your snacks or buy concessions there. Popcorn has a reusable bucket. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m. performances but don't let that fool you! Get there early to get in line to dash to your picnic location! It's a summer memory to make with your family and friends that is guaranteed to last!

    Shawnee Mission Park is made up of 1,655 acres which includes a 120-acre lake. The park itself offers many activities including a disc golf course, a dog park (a 44-acre off-leash area), hiking trails, bike trails, a playground, an archer range, and many shelters. You can fish from the lake, as well as swim in the beach which features a large swim area, a sand volleyball court, and a shaded concession area. Head on over to the marina where even more fun awaits! Here you can rent a kayak, stand-up paddleboard, four-person pedal boat, or a canoe for one hour. The cost is $20 for Johnson County residents and $22 for non-residents. Shawnee Mission Park offers some serious fun-in-the-sun activities that are kid and family-friendly!

    One of our family traditions is cutting down our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. Our three children take great joy in this tradition as they will enjoy a moment with Santa, a sleigh ride, hot chocolate, and ultimately, the cutting of the tree. The selection process is an important one as we do not want the "Charlie Brown" tree, rather we want a full tree that can handle all of our decorations and ornaments.     Mill Creek Streamway Park and the Gary L. Haller Trail are for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy walking, running, biking and simply enjoying nature. The trail is approximately 17 miles long and runs through Shawnee, Lenexa and ends in Olathe. A good portion of the trail runs alongside scenic Mill Creek where you will encounter gorgeous bridges, trees and wildflowers. There are also park shelters along the way where you can stop and rest from your jog, or stop to have a picnic. Johnson County is lucky to have such great trails!

    Shawnee Mission Park is a 1600 acre park, between 87th Street, Midland, and Renner. It has a large lake for fishing and kayaks/canoes/SUPS, with a swim beach and marina, as well as a couple smaller lakes. On some Sunday afternoons, you'll also see small sailboats on the lake, taking part in a mini-regatta. The park also features multiple trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian, including paved trails. A very popular place at the park is the large off-leash dog park, with a swim beach for the pups. There are multiple shelters for rent for parties and picnics. Oh, and the park is also a wonderful place to hang a hammock and absorb the beauty of nature.
