The following is just a sampling of some of the things that this park offers: an off-leash dog park with lake access, a boat ramp, a public beach, fishing, a disc golf course, playgrounds, walking trails, horseback riding trails, shelters, R/C airplane field, and much more. This is one of the best parks in the area and definitely worth checking out.

This event will start to take place every third Thursday from July 21st until October from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. You will get the luxury of shopping without the sun beating down and shopping local. Mid-America Sports Complex is easily one of the Midwest's finest ballparks. This 70-acre facility hosts softball and baseball games, leagues, and camps. The facility was privately owned when it was first built in 1991 but later bought out by Johnson County Park & Recreation District in 1994. Adult and youth can enjoy this complex with coed and competitive leagues.

The Theatre in the Park is located at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee. June 3rd was their first show in over a year. From what we saw, they are back and better than ever! Shows this summer include Mama Mia, Curtains, Cinderella, Halftime, Newsies, and The Full Monte! Bring your snacks or buy concessions there. Popcorn has a reusable bucket. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m. performances but don't let that fool you! Get there early to get in line to dash to your picnic location! It's a summer memory to make with your family and friends that is guaranteed to last!

Shawnee Mission Park is made up of 1,655 acres which includes a 120-acre lake. The park itself offers many activities including a disc golf course, a dog park (a 44-acre off-leash area), hiking trails, bike trails, a playground, an archer range, and many shelters. You can fish from the lake, as well as swim in the beach which features a large swim area, a sand volleyball court, and a shaded concession area. Head on over to the marina where even more fun awaits! Here you can rent a kayak, stand-up paddleboard, four-person pedal boat, or a canoe for one hour. The cost is $20 for Johnson County residents and $22 for non-residents. Shawnee Mission Park offers some serious fun-in-the-sun activities that are kid and family-friendly!

One of our family traditions is cutting down our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. Our three children take great joy in this tradition as they will enjoy a moment with Santa, a sleigh ride, hot chocolate, and ultimately, the cutting of the tree. The selection process is an important one as we do not want the "Charlie Brown" tree, rather we want a full tree that can handle all of our decorations and ornaments. The trail is approximately 17 miles long and runs through Shawnee, Lenexa and ends in Olathe. A good portion of the trail runs alongside scenic Mill Creek where you will encounter gorgeous bridges, trees and wildflowers. There are also park shelters along the way where you can stop and rest from your jog, or stop to have a picnic. Johnson County is lucky to have such great trails!

The 44-acre off-leash area features a large paved path from the main entrance to the dog swim area, nature trails, portable restrooms and shaded benches. Your dog will have endless exploring to do at this dog park! The dog park area is free and open to the public, sunrise to sunset and maintenance closures are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-9:00 a.m. Shawnee Mission Dog Park is one of the largest off-leash dog parks in the Kansas City area! Dog lovers...this is a must see!
