Ask Alexa a question about Kansas City, MO.
    Kansas City, MO
There’s something about an evening at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts that feels like a shift in pace. You walk in from the rhythm of downtown: traffic along Broadway, the glow of lights starting to come on across the skyline—and then step into this bright, open space where everything slows just enough to notice it. The glass walls are one of my favorite parts. As the sun sets, you get these wide views of Kansas City stretching out in front of you, and it feels like the city is still present, just quieter, like it’s settling in alongside you.

Inside the hall, it’s just as thoughtfully done. There really isn’t a bad seat, which is something I don’t say lightly. Whether you’re close enough to watch the musicians move or further back, taking it all in at once, the sound carries in a way that feels full and balanced. It makes the whole experience more accessible—you don’t feel like you have to chase the “right” seat to enjoy it.

The Kansas City Symphony is something I find myself coming back to a few times a year, simply because I enjoy it that much. Their traditional performances are beautifully done, and there’s something steadying about hearing those pieces live. It’s the kind of experience that lets you settle into it rather than trying to keep up.

What I’ve come to appreciate even more, though, is how creative their programming can be. Some of the most memorable nights I’ve had there have been the more unexpected ones—like their Halloween movie nights, where films like The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Nosferatu are paired with a live organ performance featuring original compositions. There’s something really special about watching those old, expressive films while the music is being shaped in real time. It feels immersive in a different way, like you’re part of the moment rather than just watching it.

They carry that same energy into other performances too, like live-to-film concerts for Jurassic Park or programs featuring music from Final Fantasy. Those shows tend to bring in a different crowd, and it’s fun to feel that mix of people all sharing the same space—some there for the nostalgia, some for the music, some for both.

I attend the symphony at least once a year, but try to go a few times if I can. Every time I go, I leave feeling like it was time well spent. It’s not just the performance—it’s the whole experience of being there, of stepping out of your routine for a couple of hours and letting something else take your attention. It’s one of those places in Kansas City that feels easy to return to, and one that I always look forward to going to again.

Our first visit to BRGR Kitchen + Bar was a great experience and has us genuinely looking forward to the next one. We arrived early so we could enjoy an unhurried meal before a nearby show, and the location could not have been better. It is easy to get to from the KC Streetcar, just steps from the Power & Light stop at Main and 14th Street.

Inside, we were greeted warmly, and our server promptly took our drink order, setting a relaxed and welcoming tone from the start. We kicked things off with the Three Dips & Chips, which was perfect for sharing. Each dip tasted freshly made, full of flavor, and paired well with the chips. For mains, we each ordered a different burger and every one was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The burgers are generously sized, making them easy to share or take home leftovers. We also shared the Combo Side, which was more than enough for the three of us. To finish, we split a chocolate shake. It was on the smaller side for the price, but served in a stainless cup and impressively thick with a rich chocolate flavor that felt indulgent and satisfying.

As we wrapped up, the restaurant started to fill up, which felt like a good sign. Between the ideal location, friendly service, and consistently good food, it was a great meal and a strong first impression. We will definitely be back before another show.

Kansas City is famous for two things that define its culture: great food and great jazz. The Majestic Restaurant is one of the few places where both come together in a truly authentic way. Located in a historic building in downtown Kansas City, The Majestic combines classic American fine dining with live jazz performances, creating an experience that feels timeless, romantic, and unmistakably local. For decades, it has been a destination for those who want more than just a meal. It is a place where atmosphere, music, and cuisine work together to create lasting memories.

A Historic Setting with Deep Roots
    - The Majestic is housed in a former saloon and hotel dating back to the early 1900s. During the Prohibition era, the basement level served as a speakeasy and jazz club, a legacy that still defines the restaurant today.
    - Original brick walls, vintage fixtures, and low-lit rooms give the space an intimate, old-world feel. Walking inside feels like stepping into another era of Kansas City history, when jazz clubs and supper clubs filled the downtown streets.

Live Jazz That Sets the Mood
    - One of The Majestic’s most defining features is its live jazz music. Performances take place in the lower-level jazz club, where guests can enjoy talented local and regional musicians in a cozy, acoustically rich setting.
    - The music is not background noise. It is central to the experience. Whether you are seated in the dining room or in the club, the sound of live jazz adds depth and character to the evening.
    - This connection to Kansas City’s jazz heritage makes The Majestic more than a restaurant. It makes it part of the city’s cultural story.

    Classic American Fine Dining
    - The Majestic’s menu focuses on traditional American steakhouse and seafood favorites prepared with care and consistency. Guests can expect high-quality steaks, fresh seafood, and classic starters that reflect timeless culinary standards.
    - Popular selections include filet mignon, prime rib, lamb chops, and seafood entrées, along with traditional sides that complete the meal. The approach is refined without being trendy, allowing guests to enjoy familiar flavors executed at a high level.

    An Elegant and Intimate Atmosphere
    - The dining rooms at The Majestic are designed for conversation and connection. Soft lighting, white tablecloths, and classic décor create a setting that feels romantic and relaxed. It is especially popular for date nights, anniversaries, and special occasions.
    - Downstairs, the jazz club offers a more casual but equally charming environment. Together, the two levels give guests the option to enjoy dinner, music, or both in one unforgettable evening.

    Service with Old School Hospitality
    - Service at The Majestic reflects traditional fine dining values. Staff members are professional, knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. Many guests return not only for the food and music but for the consistency and warmth of the service.
    - It is the kind of hospitality that makes people feel valued and remembered.
