Leawood, Kansas is a Kansas City suburb located in southeastern Johnson County and has a population of 31,867. It is served by the award winning Blue Valley School and Shawnee Mission School Districts. All five Blue Valley high schools were named to the Washington Post’s list of America’s most challenging high schools, accounting for half of the Kansas schools making the list. Incorporated in 1948, Leawood quickly became known for its lovely residential neighborhoods, excellent schools, and beautiful parks and still known for those qualities today. Over the past several years, the city has added many retail and office developments, including Park Place and Town Center.
Park Place in Leawood is a charming, open-air, mixed-use district that is adjacent to the large Town Center complex. It is located at 117th Street, just east of Nall Avenue. In contrast to the chain restaurants and stores in Town Center, it offers boutiques and unique dining. There is even a small hotel, called Aloft, that features rooms with the décor of an urban loft. There are office buildings and apartments too.In keeping with Kansas City's tradition of free and plentiful parking, there are three parking garages. In the middle of the development is a green space in which to relax. During the summer there is entertainment there and during the winter it becomes an ice rink - the only outdoor ice skating in Johnson County! For a special evening out, we suggest an early movie at the AMC 20 in Town Center, then dinner at one of the unique restaurants in Park Place. Afterwards, you can walk off dinner by strolling around the area, stop for a nightcap and listen to some music.
