The idea for this Ethnic Enrichment Festival stems from initially a parade. Since 1980 this idea has morphed into a fantastic festival of ethnic heritage from all corners of the earth. You not only have the opportunity to learn heritage but can taste food from all over the world, enjoy and participate in dance and entertainment. These family-friendly events promote acceptance and education for cultures new to children and adults alike. This event is usually held in August and is one you won't want to miss.

Happy fall y'all! Check out the Colonial Gardens pumpkin patch. It is open until October 31st. You can pick apples, go for a hayride, go down the slide, roast s'mores, take lots of pictures, and pick pumpkins from the patch. Great family fun at a wonderful local business.

As Labor Day rolls around, we recognize that summer has seemingly come to an end. We celebrate the summer one last time. It is important to keep these few safety tips in mind during the weekend!

    1. Pack an emergency kit, rest assured, men are going to get hurt
    2. Check the weather the day before, the morning of, and periodically throughout the day
    3. Always use a personal flotation device, no you're not Michael Phelps
    4. Grill safely. Nope, do not lean over the grill and pour fuel on the fire. Your eyebrows cost too much
    5. Drink responsibly. You are absolutely not a "pro", they do not hand out awards for that type of behavior
    6. Enjoy!

Keep in mind, if you will be on Lakewood Lakes, east or west, Lakewood is a no wake lake!

When you're in a difficult and stressful situation involving your vehicle needing towed due to accident or breakdown, you need to be able to rely on services you can trust. Elite Tow Service is fast, efficient and has the safety of you and your vehicle as their top priority. Mike Nichols, with now 19 years of experience, started this company six years ago. With his crew and four trucks, they serve the Jackson County area 24/7. Being family and locally owned, they understand the importance of keeping you and your family safe in an emergency. With their services, you don’t have to worry about your vehicle.

On a personal note, I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my vehicle when it comes to needing a tow. The crew is nice, understanding, hard working and responsive. They have clean and efficient operating equipment. My family & I have never been let down and I truly think they are elite!

Jackson County is one the best places to be in the fall! There are countless fall festivals, pumpkin patches, and family activities. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Soon the leaves will be changing colors, which makes it a wonderful time to take a hike through Lake Jacomo or Fleming Park. Maybe take a short road trip down some of the back roads. Get out and explore Jackson County this fall, and you will not be disappointed.

In my opinion, one of the coolest things in Kansas City right now is our sports teams. One in particular - The Kansas City Royals! They dominated the whole MLB and won it all in the World Series. The Royals play at Kauffman Stadium near Independence. This is one of the funnest things to do as a family and the stadium has a whole area dedicated to kid activities. For Royals fans like me that have been fans their whole life it has finally paid off! Thanks for an awesome exciting season Kansas City Royals!

Each year millions of football fans look forward to the beginning of the season. But for Kansas City Chiefs fans, this is really an event! Although we are normally celebrating Red Friday (the last Friday before our first home game), this year we are wearing red for our first Thursday night home game. Can't wait to hear "Touchdown Kansas City!".

Living in Jackson County gives residents a great pride in all we have to offer the surrounding communities. In addition to passionate sports fans, we have lakes, opera venues, comedy clubs, music, walking trails, lots of shopping and no shortage of eating venues and places to stay! Come for a visit and stay for a life of endless opportunities!

Union Hill, truly one of Kansas City's neighborhood gems, is located just south of downtown and Crown Center and adjacent to the historic Union Hill Cemetery. These rowhomes, townhomes and single family homes are one-of-a-kind. KC never looked so good as when you are viewing it from the intersection of 30th and Grand: truly breathtaking! No cookie cutter development, this is a real neighborhood with long-time residents who savor their surroundings and know just how special it is to be able to call this home.
